Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

I chose Northumbria for its locality to my home and the course I wanted to apply for, as it had a reputation for being interesting.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

How easy it is to get across the city. The transport systems are so easy to use and student friendly and offer discounts on travel passes.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Definitely! Everyone on the course has similar interests and are really sociable.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

The course annual field trips, they were always a laugh.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

My personal tutor; if I was ever stuck in a rut I would drop him an email or pop into his office for a chat.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

My ecology lecturers. The passion they have for the subject they teach is inspiring.

What is your favourite place on campus?

Either the Students' Union bar (obviously) or the Zone when I need to get some work done.

What is the best thing about your course?

The broad career prospects you have on completion of my course. You study so many different topics throughout the modules, there's something for everyone.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

Time management is the key to success. I work part-time in a clothes shop and balancing university work with a part-time job took some getting used to.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I start a Secondary PGCE Geography course in September. I want to be a Geography teacher. My subject knowledge has improved over the three years.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?

I have been on a placement at a Sixth Form in Newcastle. I had to complete seventy hours as part of the Students into Schools module.

Have you taken up any opportunities to travel with your current course/undertake field trips? If so, please tell us about them.

First year - Berwick and the Lake District. Second year - Pitlockry Scottish Highlands.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

Do it. Do your research. Make sure your course covers what you want to achieve at the end of it.  And enjoy every minute of it because time flies when you're busy and having fun.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

My confidence has grown as a person. My public speaking and communication skills have also developed positively.
