Where are you from?

Harrogate

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

Because it was the only university that offered me the course that I wanted. Northumbria offered the perfect environment of rounded individuals where there was sports and societies available.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

Newcastle is definitely a university town! I love the Baltic art gallery which is always a great place to chill out! They shopping is amazing and there are loads of great restaurants, bars and clubs! I also love living in Jesmond as it had everything I need and I can walk to university.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

The range of culture and and things to do! I'm still finding new things all the time- five years on from the day I started! There is even the man-made beach in the summer on the Quayside. I love going on a day trip to Tynemouth!

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Yes, it was really welcoming and you knew exactly where you were meant to be on your first day! You knew what facilities were available to you, Freshers Week was a really great time to meet like minded people who will remain life long friends.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

Just the variety of people I have met and the opportunities like the university trip to New York which was amazing!

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

I think one of my tutors Leon Maurice he has taught me the most over the years and has always been good with helping me.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

I would also say Leon has been the most inspiration tutor! He has a real knowledge for graphic and it's really interesting to hear him talk about it.

What is your favourite place on campus?

My favourite place is the canteen in the new Business School! It's nice to get some hot food and it's good to get out of the Design School and have a bit of a laugh.

What is the best thing about your course?

The amazing places we get to travel and see -New York and Paris! But also the fact we get to exhibit at Graduate Fashion Week.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

Just time keeping and how important it is. If you keep on top of your work and just do a little bit at a time, life is so much easier! Also communication is key never assume the tutor knows your struggling.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

My dream job is to work for the Marketing team at Selfridges and eventually go on to have my own business. My course has really helped me develop all the basic skills needed for a job in the industry from computer graphics to idea generation to making garments. The course leaves you feeling confident in any role for the industry.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?

Yes on my course you have a year in industry it was great to see what it was really like! I got to work with some big fashion names and it was really exciting! It's great to have time in industry because even if you don't like your placement you realise what you would rather do instead.

Have you taken up any opportunities to travel with your current course/undertake field trips? If so, please tell us about them.

Yes we went to New York in First Year and it was amazing to see all the culture and experience American street style and the galleries and exhibitions! I would recommend anyone to make the most of university trips. I'm hopefully going to Paris in final year which will be amazing!

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

I would say go for it you won't regret it! The university has every facility you could dream of and more! And as a dyslexic there has been amazing support! So Do it!
