Where are you from?

Thirsk

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

It had a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and I wanted to study in Newcastle.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

Newcastle is lush! I love to walk along the Quayside and visit the seaside.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

My guidance tutor, the counselling service and some subject tutors.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

Jamie Thompson! I was involved in the Students' Union as a halls rep and worked closely with Jamie Thompson (VP Welfare and Equality) and he is just a great person.

What is your favourite place on campus?

Ellison Building - most of my lectures are in there and the rooms are great.

Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?

Being a Halls Rep was great because I got the opportunity to meet loads of new people.

What is the best thing about your course?

Absolutely everything! The field trips are amazing too.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

Even if things seem impossible at first, they will (eventually) work out.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

At the minute, I want to work in weather and climate; maybe for the Met Office, doing forecasting or climate change research. I have learned GIS skills which I believe will be of use in any career I chose!

Have you taken up any opportunities to travel with your current course/undertake field trips? If so, please tell us about them.

There is an option to travel to the partner university in America, but I have not taken this up (as of yet; I may do in the future).

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

DO IT! Northumbria should be your first choice!

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

With the right help from the University services, I have become a much happier and (almost) confident person.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Difficult, worth-it, life-changing

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

Yes!
