Natalia Bednarz

Natalia BednarzWhere are you from?

I was born in Poland but now live in Newcastle.

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

It was close to home allowing me to stay close to all my friends and family and to keep my job here too.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

I have lived in Newcastle for 9 years, it is a wonderful city and just like any student I love socialising and meeting new people.  The night life here is perfect for that.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

The general atmosphere of the city and how polite and friendly the people here are.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming?  Was it easy to fit in?

It was really great, I attended open days prior to starting university and once I did start I felt right at home.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

It is a different style of learning from my school experience.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

We are all assigned guidance tutors here which is super helpful when you need ANYTHING they provide full support, as well as help and advice.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

We have had a number of guest speakers at the university such as practicing solicitors in various areas of law, I aim to become a solicitor in the future so meeting these people is a great inspiring experience.

What is your favourite place on campus?

Tough choice, it is between the student's union or the law library, it is small and a great place for quiet work, not always something you can get at home.

Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects?  Tells us about the highlights?

Not yet, I have tried to adapt to the university life style and concentrate on work however the uni has an overwhelming choice of societies and clubs to join.

What is the best thing about your course?

It is something I have wanted to study for a long time, I find it interesting and exciting.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

Confidence in your abilities is the key to success.

What do you want to do in the future?  What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I have developed team working skills and I continue to boost my communication and confidence along the way along with so many other skills, as an aspiring solicitor public speaking is a big thing and the activities on the course prepare you for that.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement?  What were your most memorable experiences?

Before university I did a placement at Irwin Mitchell solicitors and I look forward to going back this summer with a wider knowledge of the legal world.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

Enjoy every moment and take every opportunity that comes to you and create fantastic memories.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I believe my confidence is growing every day to new mature levels.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Educational, exciting, freedom.

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

Most certainly yes!
