Social Work Bursary

Students studying on an eligible social work course may apply for a government funded bursary to support them throughout each year of their study. Both undergraduate and postgraduate students will be considered. Please check the eligibility criteria before submitting an application. The eligibility criteria is set by the Department of Health.

Eligible courses must be accredited by one of the following bodies:

  • Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)
  • Care Council for Wales (CCW)
  • Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC)

Please check the NHS Business Services Authority website for further eligibility criteria.

Key Facts

  • You must apply each year of your study to receive funding.
  • Part-time students will be paid pro-rata.
  • Undergraduate students can only apply from their second year of study onwards.
  • Postgraduate students can apply throughout each year of study.
  • The number of bursaries available to eligible students are capped - therefore you are not guaranteed to receive a government bursary.
