This programme has been specifically designed for those who wish to develop their career within public health, in addition to those looking to promote the health of the public as part of their current professional role.

Upon successful graduation you will possess in-depth research and enquiry skills, and a critical understanding of their application in a public health employment context.

The practical application of these academic skills will equip you with the knowledge and approaches necessary to implement a broad range of interventions to improve public health outcomes in different employment contexts. For example, dealing with pandemic flu epidemics, increasing accessibility to health care services, reducing obesity or malaria rates and community development to enable disadvantaged communities.

This programme is delivered entirely at Kaplan in Singapore. If you would like to apply or for further information please visit the Kaplan website.

Module Information

AC7028 - Public Health Intelligence and Epidemiology: Informing Policy and Strategy

This module aims to conceptualise and critically appraise the relationships between public health policy drivers (including epidemiological evidence and other public health intelligence information) and the political, economic, social, technical, legal and environmental dimensions of resultant health policy responses. These dimensions will be considered with reference to both global and local public health contexts. More particularly, you will be expected to critically engage with and appraise public health paradigms, specific public health issues, theoretical and technical aspects underpinning epidemiological evidence, and the effectiveness of subsequent public health policy responses, for example the process of commissioning for health inequalities. The research tutored learning on this module will enable you to engage in critically reviewing the research outcomes of others and to provide analyses of your findings, which is a key asset for public health employers.

AC0782 Public Health Fundamentals: Concepts, Theories and Frameworks

This module offers you the opportunity to develop or further develop a critical understanding of a broad range of public health theories, concepts and frameworks that are fundamental to public health policy and practice in national and international contexts. You will learn about the interconnection between political, social, economic, biological, technological and environmental issues and their impact on individuals, families, groups, communities and societies. The module will focus on the importance of research rich learning in order to provide a firm evidence base for public health practice, an important asset for public health practitioners in the workplace. The module has consistently evaluated well by students for its introduction to critical thinking in public health and the support given by module tutors in that process with both these factors being noted by external examiners.

AC7118 - Health Improvement: Behaviours, Practices, Interventions and Management

The overall aim of this module is to enable you to critically consider the complexities of conceptualising, communicating, managing, and evaluating health improvement issues and interventions. It explores theories of behaviour change, health communication, health promotion, social marketing, community development, wellbeing and social practices, and the application of those theories to health improvement practice. This module will enable you to identify and critically apply the main theoretical principles underlying health improvement approaches and interventions, while recognising and addressing health inequalities and inequities. The module examines how different approaches to health improvement can contribute to social change and you will learn how to effectively solve real-world problems and develop appropriate health improvement interventions.
