Five Reasons Why You Should Choose Our Business & Management MSc

Discover how our course could help you take your career to the next level.

Whether you’re looking to take the next step in your career, build on your existing talents or launch a new business venture, our Business and Management MSc is a great investment. It will provide you with key skills – from marketing to strategy, digital entrepreneurship to business analytics – as well as help you stand out from the crowd.

1. You’ll gain the skill set needed to be a business leader of the future

Our Business and Management MSc places a premium on the kind of skills employers are looking for. With 75% of millennials saying they want companies to give back to society with their profits, an increasing number of firms are putting sustainability and corporate social responsibility as the key pillars of their business strategies. Now more than ever, modern business leaders care about giving back to society, as well as recognising the benefits that doing so can have on their brand reputation.

That’s why Newcastle Business School is at the forefront of sustainable and responsible business, management and leadership. We are a signatory of the UN-sponsored Principles of Responsible Management Education; a global movement which is changing the world through the creation of leaders with the skills needed to be powerful drivers of corporate sustainability. Our MSc modules – including dedicated ones on Responsible Leadership and Globalisation, Innovation and Sustainability – reflect our position as a force for good in the business and management arena. The course will offer insight into ethical business practices, and aims to shape responsible business leaders who can transform organisations and produce positive outcomes.

2. You’ll receive first-rate teaching from an internationally recognised Business School

Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University, was the first school in Europe to secure double accreditation in Business and Accounting from AACSB International. This means its standard of teaching is equal to that of elite institutions such as Harvard, Stanford, Yale and Northwestern University. It also maintains a strong relationship with 16 professional bodies – including Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, Chartered Management Institute and Chartered Institute of Professional Development – and is an active member of the business community.

As well as being experienced business practitioners with a thorough knowledge of the industry, our tutors’ academic expertise also brings credibility and quality to the course: in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF) 60% of our research was assessed as internationally excellent or world leading.

3. It’s a flexible and affordable distance-learning course that fits around your life

Our Business and Management MSc gives you the chance to study at the times that are convenient for you, wherever you are in the world. That means you don’t have to sacrifice your responsibilities in order to transform your career prospects, and you can still earn as you learn. The module-by-module approach means you can also pay in instalments, and with multiple start dates throughout the year, your journey can begin with little delay, at a time that suits you best.

We also actively encourage applicants with a diverse range of backgrounds and work experience to consider taking the course. Unlike many other postgraduate courses, such as MBAs, you don’t need to have prior knowledge of the area or senior managerial experience. No matter your background, we will empower you to develop a wide range of invaluable practical business skills and a Masters-level theoretical understanding to complement them.

4. You’ll be part of a supportive and engaging online community

You might not be on campus, but that won’t mean your learning experience will be compromised. You will be part of an active online community, participating in webinars and discussion boards with students from across the world, growing a global network of contacts. Live sessions will also be recorded for you to watch back later if you cannot attend.

You will receive in-depth tutor guidance and feedback, as well as support from your very own Student Success Advisor, who you can turn to at any time for any course-related queries or guidance. As a student, you’ll be able to tap into the Careers and Employment Service, from day one to after graduation. This includes the employability hub, Careers Online, which has been designed to help you move your career forward. And if that wasn’t enough, you will also be able to engage with our Student and Graduate Enterprise Service, which aims to mentor students with entrepreneurial skills and ideas.

5. You’ll develop your skills through research-led projects and self-directed learning

Research is at the very heart of each module of this course, and helps explain why Northumbria University was ranked in the UK’s Top 50 for Research Power in the most recent REF. You’ll develop your research skills throughout your studies, including a specialist Research Methods module. You’ll also be supported and encouraged to put your new Masters-level learning and skills into practice before you have even finished the course applying cutting-edge theory to real-world case studies and in your day-to-day working life. All of this will culminate in the completion of an independent Masters Research Based Study on a topic of your choice at the end of the course.
