What kind of career will this course prepare me for?
The BA (Hons) Theatre
and Performance course expands career horizons by developing your professional
skills and knowledge across a range of areas. Northumbria's Theatre and
Performance students have gone on to work with diverse employers, including local authorities, Northern Stage, Live Theatre, the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, and theatres nationwide.
If you
choose to study on this programme, you could go on to become an actor like
graduates Riley Jones, Josie Cerise and Jake Jarratt; to work in a theatre
company like Jessica Whittle; or even to set up
and run your own theatre like Ali Pritchard, founder of Alphabetti Theatre.
Other careers which our graduates have embarked on include:
producer, arts administrator, events production coordinator, marketing and
communications, teachers, and further study.
Our
programme - with its emphasis on practice, creativity, leadership and problem
solving - is a gateway which opens onto many career paths. Where will your path
lead? Your journey starts here!
How does this course increase my employability?
From the beginning you'll engage directly with our
professional theatre connections and partnerships through skills training, work
experience and other opportunities in professional settings.
Developing key skills - Working with regional,
national, and international organisations, you'll develop transferable skills
favoured by employers including networking, negotiation, communication,
evaluation, co-production and reflective analysis. Managing your own creative
and research projects, working in teams to solve creative challenges, and
responding to live briefs in assessments ensures that employability is at the
heart of your studies.
Further Study - For those who wish to pursue their
knowledge and interests further, we provide masters courses in Arts MRes or Digital and Immersive Arts MA. Our graduates have also gone on to undertake
PhD’s with us.
Careers Service - The university's Graduate Futures careers service provides in-person and online career and
employability support for five years after you graduate.
