What will I learn on this module?
This module is the key to your entrepreneurial learning in your first year. The module supports you to develop your ideas and entrepreneurial mindset through team learning. You will work in coaching teams and with support from your Team Coach you and your peers will work on integrating learning from your other Level 4 modules to support you to test and develop ideas which will build your entrepreneurial skills. Combined with this is the all programme activities which support your entrepreneurial and team learning, through a residential and Bootcamp as well as student led enterprise events.
You will use developing your own trading business or by working on enterprising type activities such as through entrepreneurial societies to tests out your learning in a practical setting.
This module is self-directed so you and your peers will direct your own learning in coaching sessions by drawing in learning and topics form your other level 4 modules. With support from your team Coach however some of the topics you may cover are;
Team formation topics (from all programme activities)
How to develop effective communication
How to develop effective venture teams
What is coaching and how to get the most from a coaching environment
Venture development Topics (From Introduction to Entrepreneurship, Financial Decision making and Introduction to Marketing)
How to come up with business ideas
Ideation
Business model canvas
Lean start up
Market research
Developing a cashflow
Writing a marketing plan
Team development Topics (From Business, Economy and Society and Preparing for Professional Practice)
Developing a social enterprise
Team building and communication

How will I learn on this module?
You will learn through weekly coaching sessions. These coaching sessions allow you to use your venture or your enterprising activity to decide which are the most relevant topics for your learning and will allow you to practise these topics which will develop your learning further. There will be a small number of lectures to introduce you to topics to help your team work effectively and understand methods to develop your ideas.
How will I be supported academically on this module?
Support will be provided to you by a member of academic staff who will act as your Coach and help to facilitate your learning as well as the venture team learning.
The module is supported by a Teaching and Learning Plan which will be developed in collaboration with you and the team at the start of the module.
The eLp will be used as a resource for relevant materials as well as serving as a communication hub for relevant course information, assessment submission and discussion boards.
You will be provided with a specialist electronic reading list that comprises of various materials including reports, book chapters and journal article that showcases the application of a variety of subject materials, however this will develop over the year as your and team identify relevant topics.
What will I be expected to read on this module?
All modules at Northumbria include a range of reading materials that students are expected to engage with. Online reading lists (provided after enrolment) give you access to your reading material for your modules. The Library works in partnership with your module tutors to ensure you have access to the material that you need.
What will I be expected to achieve?
Knowledge & Understanding:
Develop a knowledge of building effective teams and team learning (MLO1)
Demonstrate an understanding how teams support entrepreneurial development. (MLO2)
Intellectual / Professional skills & abilities:
Use a range of decision-making techniques to in complex and unpredictable contexts. (MLO 3)
Personal Values Attributes (Global / Cultural awareness, Ethics, Curiosity) (PVA):
Value curiosity, collaboration and analysis as keystones in the creation of new knowledge and practice necessary for an entrepreneurial career. (MLO4)
How will I be assessed?
Formative assessment (MLO1,2,3,4)
You will be required to run your own coaching sessions either individually or in a small group.
You will be required to report on your business activity.
You will receive feedback on the above through your venture team
Summative assessment (MLO1,2,3,4)
You will be assessed via two assessments
A team presentation (25%) in SM1 discussing how you have developed your venture ideas and how you have integrated learning from your other modules.
A 2000 word individual portfolio patchwork document (75%) SM2
This assignment will capture your engagement with the all programme activities as well as your engagement across other modules. You will be required to discuss how this has supported the development of your business or enterprise activities

Module abstract
On Student Enterprise: Growing a Venture Team you will be supported in a coaching environment to develop a venture team. In this team you will work and support other as you all develop and test your business ideas. You will learn about entrepreneurship by running your own business or working on enterprising activities and pulling together your learning from other modules through your coaching sessions. Using this method of learning allows you to direct and tailor your learning to enable a more transformative experience.
Through this module you will engaging in practical activities such as a residential, an entrepreneurial bootcamp and you will work with other students across all three years on the student led enterprise events.
We have designed Student Enterprise: Growing a Venture Team to support you’re the beginnings of your entrepreneurial journey by providing a practical environment for your entrepreneurial learning.
