How will my BA (Hons) Architecture degree provide me with
the skills needed for my career?
We will arm you with skills in creative thinking and with the
contemporary knowledge and skills applicable to the industry, underpinned by
regular and authentic learning experiences. You will acquire skills in problem
solving and divergent thinking, applicable to the wider creative industries and
built environment professions. You will apply your learning to real world design
projects and scenarios, thereby enhancing your employability innovative ways of
communicating your ideas in written, drawn and verbal forms.
The curriculum has been designed with a vocational emphasis,
informed directly by the industrial expertise of staff, external examiners, and
the programme’s strong relationships with local and national practitioners. The
quality of our graduates leads major national and international architectural
practices to repeatedly employ our students, who have consequently found
employment in Europe, North America, and Asia, as well as in the United
Kingdom.
The skills developed through the architecture degree not
only reflect and support the attributes expected of a graduate of architecture,
but are also transferrable into a wide selection of alternative professional
and academic pathways. The context-focused approach of our teaching is
reinforced by linking the use of regional sites with relevant international
field study visits to the major architectural capitals of Europe. This

Most graduates from Northumbria have secured key roles in
architectural practices locally, nationally and internationally. Others have
transferred their skills to a range of professions including construction,
property development, visualisation, games design, urban design and
manufacturing.
