How to apply for accommodation at Northumbria University

Accommodation reservations for September 2026 are now open! Learn how to secure early access to our booking system and Register Your Interest to secure your room now.

Looking for accommodation for January 2026? Bookings are still open - please log into the Accommodation Section of the Student Portal to browse availability in real time and make a booking.

 

Learn more about the accommodation we offer on the individual building pages or use the accommodation comparison graph. We encourage students to book accommodation early and always in advance of travelling to Northumbria University.

You can follow the below application process to browse availability and start a booking:

1. Confirm your course offer with Northumbria University.

If you are applying via UCAS, please log into your UCAS Hub and ensure your course offer is updated. You can book accommodation only if Northumbria University as been listed as your Firm (first) choice university.

If you are applying via Clearing and have been made a clearing offer please follow the instructions from Applicant Services on how to Add your Clearing choice on UCAS Hub to confirm your course offer.

Please note this might take up-to 48h to be updated on the University system.

If you are a direct entry applicant, please visit the Applicant Portal to review and accept your course offer. To learn more about the process and the required steps, you can visit the After You Apply page. 

2. Visit the Student Portal and log in to the Accommodation section to start a booking.

Once your course acceptance has been recorded (please note this might take up to 48h), and using your applicant portal login details (you will have received this via email when you applied) select the Accommodation section to start your application.

Top Tip: Make sure you register with your personal email address and not one associated to a school/college. School/College email addresses are often closed after you leave and can delay the process.

3. Self-select your room.

Self-select your bedroom online based on real-time availability. Be in control of your accommodation choice and choose you room exact bedroom and learn more about the type of your flat before confirming your room selection.

4. Review and accept your room offer.

You are required to sign a tenancy agreement to accept and confirm your accommodation booking. This is completed online and you receive a confirmation email with all relevant documents. Please be advised that some residences have specific guarantor requirements and payment schedules, please check the information on your offer email before accepting your booking. 

Top Tip: Make sure you read your contract carefully as it is a legally binding contract. If you don’t understand anything, get in touch, we will be happy to run through it with you.

5. Pay your advance rent payment

The final step of your booking is making an advance rent payment of £250*. Once the payment has been made, the room is secured for you. This payment is part of your total accommodation cost and is used towards your final rent payment.

Once you've completed the process above, the room is secured for you. You will also get access to our dedicated Facebook groups to help you connect with flatmates before you arrive.
*The advance rent payment may vary depending on the residence you book.
