The Conference Bursary Scheme for 2024/5 is now open.

This scheme is open to postgraduate research students (i.e. those registered for an MPhil, PhD or Professional Doctorate) to attend and present at a conference, then feed back knowledge and experience gained from the conference to their supervision team and research group. Grants of up to £400 are available on a competitive basis.

Applications should be made at least four weeks in advance of the event. The Graduate School aims to issue a decision to the applicant within two weeks of receiving the complete application and supporting document(s).  Retrospective applications will not be accepted.

Confirmation of an invitation to present e.g. a copy of the letter or email from the Conference Organiser must be submitted with the application form. Failure to provide this will delay the consideration of the application.

The bursary application form must be countersigned by the applicant’s Principal Supervisor, and the PGR Director/Lead; the signatures provide confirmation of their support for the proposed activity. If unavailable, an approval email attached to the bursary application will be accepted.

If you are a Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) funded student, you should firstly apply for funds through the CDT’s Student Development Fund.

All applicants are responsible for ensuring adherence to Northumbria’s Health and Safety policies and practices.  For further information, please see the Health and Safety webpage.

Once awarded, the applicant should make the necessary arrangements with the assistance of their Supervisor and/or faculty Resources Office using the financial codes provided by The Graduate School on awarding the bursary. Alternatively students can make their own arrangements and submit a Student Expenses Claim Form (up to the value of the bursary award) with supporting receipts to MyForms for payment.

Queries and completed applications should be submitted to graduateschool@northumbria.ac.uk

The guidelines and application form for 2024/5 can be accessed here. Please note older versions of the form cannot be accepted.
