CHASE Research

BUILDING A BRIGHTER FUTURE.

At Northumbria University we're dedicated to doing research that will make a real and lasting impact on our society.

Through CHASE we work to support some of the most marginalised groups within our society developing new interventions that will make a real difference to people's lives, we work collaboratively across disciplines to better understand aspects of disease and ill health at an individual level so that we can help people to live healthier lives for longer and we work closely with our partners to evaluate our public services and help inform policy and practice decisions moving forward so that everyone has access to the help they need, when they need it.

We work with communities to create and evaluate interventions, services and policies that improve the health of, and bring economic opportunities to, the most marginalised in our society.

We address critical issues such as: child hunger; housing for an ageing population; violence against women and adult exploitation; new ways of working with specific groups including the homeless and ageing communities - who often have multiple and complex needs; people living with addition, trauma and mental health; wellbeing, employment and quality of life for military veterans and their families; the link between welfare systems and health and the social impact of organisations’ operational activities

We address supply, wellbeing and retention as well as the future need for, and transformation of, roles within the NHS and the social care sector.

We are building on our research that has informed a competency framework for nurses working with older people. We will use cutting edge biomechanical technology and other approaches to improve health prior to surgery and to develop novel clinical assessment and rehabilitation tools.

We have extensive expertise in evaluating and reforming health and social care services, for example we currently have a number of high value research projects with partners such as NIHR that will support with the transformation of NHS service structure and delivery.

We use the latest technologies (e.g., genomics; proteomics; epigenetics; metabolomics) to further our understanding of aspects of cancer, ageing, drug delivery, infection, disease, nutrition and health at an individual level. We will build on our established research excellence to investigate the link between sleep, ageing and health, and explore wearable technology as a means of patient diagnosis and treatment.
