Chris Simmonds

Assistant Professor

Department: Northumbria Law School

Chris graduated from Northumbria University in 2005.

He practised for 2 years as a paralegal at Ben Hoare Bell Solicitors specialising in Housing Law representing tenants through legal aid.

He moved to local government in 2007 where he qualified as a Solicitor. He had a diverse caseload, dealing with contract law, employment, planning, licensing and housing among other things.

Chris transferred to Durham County Council in 2009 following the administrative changes brought about by the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 where he continued to specialise in planning and housing.

Chris is a member of the Law Society’s Access to Justice Committee and has an interest in all issues relating to the rule of law.

Chris’s research focuses on unmet legal need within communities and the role that law clinics within university can, and should, play in meeting that need.
