Dr Mikhail Batuev

Assistant Professor

Dr Mikhail Batuev is an Assistant Professor in Sport Management.

Mikhail's research interests include evolution of youth sports, mega-sport events and contexts around them. Mikhail graduated with the PhD in Sport Studies from the University of Stirling in 2016, upon completion of his research project on organisational evolution of snowboarding, skateboarding and sport climbing. He also holds an MBA degree in Football Industries from the University of Liverpool, which he completed in 2007 after being awarded a prestigious UK Chevening scholarship.

Mikhail worked in various roles in professional sport business, including a football club and a player agency. Most notably, he worked for Red Bull GmbH, one of the world’s most iconic and innovative consumer brands, for many years in various sport marketing roles. During his time with the company, he contributed to a number of internationally recognised Red Bull sport events and athlete sponsorships.

Mikhail is experienced in both qualitative and quantitative research methods and have disseminated research outputs extensively in various formats, including reports, articles, and presentations. At Northumbria, he has served as Programme Leader for the MSc International Sport Management. This role involves managing a well-established postgraduate programme that produces high-quality graduates, employable across a wide range of international sport organisations.
