Programme of Concerts & Recitals Hosted by Northumbria University's Music Department.

Recordings of previous concerts are available on the Northumbria Music YouTube Channel

Concerts take place on city campus, Tuesdays at 13:15pm in The Great Hall, Sutherland Building *unless otherwise stated.

Admission is free, no booking required.

The recitals are free of charge, informal, and you are welcome to come and go as you please and to bring your lunch with you. Some concerts will be live-streamed and recorded and links will appear on this page. Concerts last around 35 minutes.

Baroque solos and duets for alto, including Monterverdi’s ‘Pur Ti Miro’ and Bach’s ‘Von den Stricken’ from the St. John Passion and Et Exultavit from Bach’s Magnificat.1

A selection of rousing and powerful instrumental traditional folk melodies arranged for Northumbrian Pipes, Guitar, Violin, Piano and Accordion.

18th March – Kristiina Watt – Theorbo

‘A mio modo - 17th Italian music for chitarrone and voice’

Music by Kapsberger, Piccinini,G. Caccini, Strozzi, Merula, Castaldi. This programme presents a snapshot into music-making in 17th century Italy - a supercharged period of musical invention, experimentation and discovery. Drawing from the spirit of a time when all instrumentalists would sing and singers would play this recital presents solos by the greatest theorbo virtuosos of the time paired with songs. ‘A mio modo - 17th Italian music for chitarrone and voice’

Directed by Alec Gouldstone, L’Isola is a vocal consort specialising in Early Music, formed by some of the finest voices at Cambridge University.
