Beyond Sustainability

21st February 2023

Northumbria University Amsterdam is hosting high-profile debate workshops on sustainable urban development in collaboration with Netherlands-based global consultancy firm Arcadis.

Beyond Sustainability: Designing Future Urban Living Environments is open to academics, students and members of the public between March 2nd and 3rd, and will be held at Northumbria’s Amsterdam campus.

Together with the Arcadis Future Minds initiative, Northumbria is using these debating workshops to help identify and strengthen young talent, promote excellence and increase knowledge and innovation. The initial focus will be on current urban society models, and will aim to identify impact-actions to drive the future sustainability agenda and human interactions with their living environments.

Professor Christine De Lille, Director of Northumbria University Amsterdam Campus, said: “We are delighted to be collaborating with Arcadis. We have the ambition to make an impact on the increasingly complex ecological, economic, and social challenges of the present and the long-term future. During the Debate Sessions we will explore the challenges and opportunities of urban regeneration in highly interactive debates and workshop sessions over two days. The aim is to take a broad and deep look at the future and from that future to come up with solutions for today. I would encourage anyone with an interest in this area to attend.”

Northumbria’s Amsterdam campus is situated within the teaching facilities of its partner the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS). In line with a shared commitment to sustainability throughout the campus, Northumbria and AUAS offer a joint master’s degree in Global Sustainable Business Management delivered in Amsterdam.

Operating in over 70 countries, Arcadis delivers sustainable design, engineering and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.

The debating sessions are being held on the 2nd and 3rd March at Northumbria University Amsterdam Campus, Hogeschool van Amsterdam.
