Newcastle Business School Professor to lead global forum on China

8th July 2015

A Professor from Northumbria University’s Newcastle Business School will be the lead guest editor for the world influential academic journal on technological innovation, Technovation.

Professor Yu Xiong explained he will become guest editor for the journal’s first ever special issue that is focusing on China, the theme of the special issue is ‘Independent innovation: new practices to manage technology transfer projects in international collaborations with China’.

Technovation – is an internationally recognised technology innovation area Journal which has the second highest impact of all the innovation discipline journals’ list by the UK’s Academic Journal Guide.  This special issue looks at a very important topic in the world, China’s International Innovation technology strategy.

Professor Xiong went on to say “As a part of the ’China Dream’, the Chinese government is promoting the goal of independent innovation, this does not mean closing the door to the rest of the world, In fact, it cannot be successfully achieved without technology transfer and open innovation between China and the rest of the world.

“International technology transfer and knowledge-flows are pivotal for China to learn and contribute to innovation and to realise its innovation strategy. Additionally, both developed and developing countries can learn from this too, and this is what the journal will explain in more detail”.

In recent years, significant changes have taken place in the processes of international technology transfer and innovation in China, and these are not yet fully valued or understood. The aim of this special issue is to study the effect of these developments on current and potential international technology transfer and innovation within China and to inform and encourage both academic researchers and practitioners.

In view of these developments more studies are extremely important and urgently needed on the topics of managing international technology transfer activities and on the innovation in China.

Today, more and more journals in Innovation areas announcing special topics focussed on China, Technovation now becomes the one with the highest impact Journals on the market today, this is because China is now at the forefront for not only politicians and businessmen, but also from world leading researchers.

Professor Yu Xiong is also a board member of the China UK Innovation Expert Group run by Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, and has extensive experience of advising many UK businesses in exploring opportunities in China. Along with Professor Xiong, he has invited two world leading researchers to the panel Professor Peter Williamson, Judge Business School of Cambridge University and Professor Xiaobo Wu, Dean of Business School, Zhejiang University, China.

The submission deadline for the first round will be on 30September 2015.
