From a young age, I've always been passionate about caring for others. This passion led me to pursue a career in healthcare, where I could make a meaningful difference in people's lives. My journey began with obtaining a qualification in Health & Social Care, which laid the foundation for my career.

I started my professional journey as a Care Assistant, where I gained invaluable experience in providing compassionate and person-centered care to residents. My dedication and commitment to excellence quickly became apparent, and I was soon entrusted with additional responsibilities.

Over the years, I continued to develop my skills and knowledge, always striving to deliver the highest standards of care. My hard work and perseverance paid off, and I was promoted to the role of Senior Health Care Assistant. In this role, I have the privilege of leading a dedicated team, mentoring new staff, and ensuring that our residents receive the best possible care. I take great pride in developing personalized care plans, administering medication safely, and fostering a positive and supportive environment for both residents and my team. Currently, I am a Team Leader at HC-One, where I continue to build on my experience and leadership skills. One of my career aspirations is to become a registered public health professional, and I am actively working towards achieving this goal as an aspiring UKPHR (United Kingdom Public Health Register) candidate. This certification will allow me to contribute even more effectively to public health initiatives and improve health outcomes on a larger scale.

My journey has been marked by continuous learning, dedication, and a deep-seated desire to make a difference. I am excited about the future and the opportunities to further my career in public health, always with the aim of enhancing the well-being of the communities I serve. 

What was it like studying at Northumbria? What

What was the best thing about your course?

Reflecting on my experience, here are some of the best things about studying for a Master of Public Health (MPH):

The MPH program offered a well-rounded curriculum that covered a wide range of public health topics. From epidemiology and biostatistics to health policy and environmental health, the breadth of subjects provided a solid foundation in public health principles.

The emphasis on practical experience was invaluable. Opportunities for internships, fieldwork, and hands-on projects allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. This practical exposure was crucial in understanding the complexities of public health issues and developing effective solutions.

The interdisciplinary approach of the course was a highlight. Collaborating with students and faculty from diverse backgrounds, including medicine, sociology, and environmental sciences, enriched my learning experience. It broadened my perspective and helped me appreciate the multifaceted nature of public health.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Reflecting on my time at Northumbria University, several key skills and knowledge areas stand out that I use regularly in my career:

Communication Skills

Effective Communication: My courses emphasized the importance of clear and effective communication, both written and verbal. This skill is crucial for interacting with residents, families, and colleagues, ensuring that information is shared accurately and efficiently.

Active Listening: I learned to listen actively and empathetically, which helps in understanding and addressing the needs and concerns of residents and their families.

Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving

Critical Analysis: My coursework involved analysing case studies and situations critically, which has helped me in making informed decisions and solving problems effectively in my role.

Creative Problem-Solving: The ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions is essential in providing high-quality care and improving processes.

Leadership and Teamwork

Leadership Skills: Courses on leadership and management provided me with the tools to lead and mentor a team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

I truly appreciated the dynamic learning environment. The faculty were knowledgeable and supportive, always willing to go the extra mile to help students succeed. The courses were well-structured and provided a strong foundation for my career.

Extracurricular Activities

Northumbria offered a plethora of extracurricular activities. Whether it was joining a student society, participating in sports, or engaging in volunteering opportunities, there was always something to do. These activities helped me develop new skills, build friendships, and create lasting memories.
