Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Facilities

Described as some of the best campus sport facilities in the country and rated EXCELLENT by the Sport England recommended Continuous Improvement Tool, QUEST 2018

The Department of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation boast facilities for teaching & learning that rival any in the world. Predominantly housed in Sport Central, a £30 million pound purpose-built sports building, these include an indoor 40-metre sprint track, a range of state-of-the-art sport science laboratories and an environmental chamber that allows students and researchers the opportunity to manipulate environmental conditions to mimic anywhere in the world. These facilities are complemented by multi-functional learning spaces, and afford our students hands-on experience to enhance their development as researchers and practitioners.

The Department also prides itself on the Clinical Skills Centre, which is the focal point for our Health students’ educational journey. The Skills Centre is a place where our students can develop practical skills and gain valuable experience of real hospital situations in simulated scenarios. This provides our students with a learning experience aligned with developments in the modernisation of healthcare delivery.

In addition to the teaching environments, the sport, health and exercise areas of our sporting facilities are open to all students. Sport Central is based at the heart of the city campus, boasting 3 sports halls within the 3000-seat arena, squash courts, swimming pool, sauna and steam room, 120-station gym environment plus dedicated Strength and Conditioning suite.

Additionally, Coach Lane Sport Centre based just 3 miles out of the city centre is home to our outdoor pitches (Grass, ATP and 3G Rubber Crumb) plus sports hall and additional Strength and Conditioning environments.
