People, Work, Organisation (PWO)

The People, Work, Organisation (PWO) research group that explores from both a theoretical and practical perspective, how we can enable people to thrive and flourish in high-performing organisations that are also great places to work. Our research is characterised by a commitment to organisational practices that promote inclusive and fair work. Our research informs and influences positive change in policy and practice.

We also have cultural activities with retreat writing, research presentations from PhD researchers, early research papers, pilot studies, conference papers, editor, disciplinary panels, industry and policy makers plenary.

The People, Work, and Organisation research group has a rich history of exploring the complex dynamics between individuals, work environments, and organizational structures. Founded on a commitment to advancing knowledge in areas like Human Resource Governance, Critical Management Studies, and organizational change, our group has consistently led innovative research that challenges traditional views and promotes inclusive, people-centered solutions. With a focus on equality, diversity, meaningful work, and career mobility, we aim to shape the future of work, fostering environments that empower both individuals and organizations to thrive.

Here we focus on inclusion of voices in human resources and management studies. Promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion fosters a vibrant, innovative workplace where every individual is valued, empowering organizations to thrive through diverse perspectives, collaboration, and a culture of respect and belonging. Research shows EDI boosts creativity, productivity, and employee engagement, driving long-term sustainable growth.

Here we explore the meanings we attribute to, and derive from, work, especially in the context of ageing, health and wellbeing, careers, as well as maternity translation and parenting and work. Furthermore, Meaningful work and career mobility empower employees to grow, align passion with purpose, and adapt within dynamic organizations. This fosters engagement, retention, and organizational agility, driving long-term success and innovation. GALLUP (2020) found that nearly 80% of employees worldwide feel not full engaged at work despite companies efforts to support employees. There is unexplained phenomena which can be explored to understand what meaningful work and career mobility may look like in this century.

Critical Management Studies challenges conventional management, focusing on ethical practices, social justice, and power dynamics in organizations. Enhance leadership by rethinking workplace norms to foster inclusive, equitable, and people-centered environments. Specifically, gender (LGBTQ+ economics), intersectionality, identity, embodiment and violence, marginalized groups in service work, workplace justice, and aesthetic or emotional labour.
