Career Path: Pupil Barrister at Bhuckory Chambers in Mauritius.
Location: Montagne Blanche

I have always been passionate about the legal profession. Therefore, I naturally opted for an LLB and a Master of Laws in International Business Law at Middlesex University. I chose to undertake the BPTC at Northumbria University in order to become a barrister.

Where are you doing now?Erwind Nunkoo

I am currently doing my pupillage at Bhuckory Chambers under the supervision of Mr. Sanjay Bhuckory, SC.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

I received lots of positive feedback from previous students. Moreover, the cost of living and university fees are cheaper compared to other universities.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

The advocacy and conferencing sessions were of a different league. They were interactive and I received valuable feedback at the end of each class. The lectures and seminars were well planned and helped me in developing the necessary skills to become a barrister.

What was the best thing about your course?

The flexibility of the course during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although it was an uncertain and difficult time, the university made the required arrangements for a seamless study experience. I was able to continue with my classes and exams online. Even, when the courses changed from on-site to online, the quality of teaching remained the same.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Personally, it is the drafting, conferencing and advocacy skills.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

I had a good experience at Northumbria University and had the unique opportunity to make friends with people from other countries and cultures.

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

Just go for it. You will get all the support required for your course. The Lecturers and staff are always ready to help with any of your doubts.

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in three words?

Memorable, Valuable and Fantastic.
