Prof James Martin

Professor

Department: Mechanical and Construction Engineering

I am a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Construction Engineering.  My expertise is primarily in geophysical and geotechnical methods. I have specialised in developing new exploration, monitoring and characterisation methods, which has resulted in the research and development of new sensors and sources, as well as associated signal processing.  I have applied my expertise to condition monitoring and am interested in developing holistic approaches for the characterisation of objects and subjects.

My extensive experience of research and engineering project portfolio management from the oil and gas industry enables me to contribute to a broad range of projects.  I have an extensive interest in materials and surface properties stimulated by the many challenges I have encountered in developing robust measurement systems that are deployed in harsh environments.
