Northumbria University, Newcastle has a long history of accepting students from Ghanian on to a range of courses.

Students who join us from Ghana will enjoy teaching that is both research-informed and practice-led, with strong links to industry and professional bodies. Our campuses are designed to provide you with a vibrant and friendly environment in which to study and live so that you have the support you need in order to make the most of your time with us.

Ghana sits under the remit of our Nigeria Regional Office and we encourage any prospective students or those interested in studying with us, to get in touch with the Nigeria Regional Office who will be able to guide you from the start of your application through to enrolment with us.

Although some courses have specific requirements for entry, Northumbria will consider any qualification for entry to its courses.

For Entry On To: You Will Need: Grade Required:
International Foundation Programme

WAEC (WASSCE)/ NECO - A to D grades in 5 subjects

A to D grades in 5 subjects

1st Year Undergraduate Polytechnic National Diploma    
Level 5 Entry University Diploma   
Level 6 Entry Polytechnic Higher National Diploma   
Postgraduate Programmes  Bachelor Degree Second class lower / 50% / C / 2.0 for courses requiring a 2:2

Second class upper / 60% / B / 3.0 for courses requiring a 2:1
Graduate Certificate Bachelor Degree 1.5/4.0 CGPA or 40% (pass) 

Please note these are general entry guidelines.  Actual requirements may vary depending on your chosen course of study and certain courses may have specific or additional entry requirements, full details of which can be found by clicking our Course link.  Decisions for entry will also be based on personal statements, previous study information and not just your final course grading. 

For most degree level and above courses we accept the following qualifications as evidence of English Language.

 

WAEC – We typically require C6 for most courses*

 

NECO (accepted for September 2022 Intake onwards) – we typically require B3 for most courses*

 

Please upload your WAEC/NECO certificate as part of your application where possible, along with a copy of your scratch card where applicable.

 

*Please note that these tests may not be acceptable for certain Professional or Pre Registration Health Courses. Other courses may have different grading requirements.
