I currently work as the Partner Policy and Legal Compliance at Bismerk Solicitors.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

I chose to study at Northumbria University due to its specialised Master's program in Space Law, offering advanced courses like Space, Telecoms and Cyber Governance, which align perfectly with my goal of assessing regional space governance challenges in Africa.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

Studying at Northumbria University was an enriching experience. The program offered a mix of lectures, seminars, and an advanced legal research in Space Law and Policy, which greatly enhanced my research and analytical skills. Engaging in team projects and collaborating with peers from diverse backgrounds enriched my intercultural learning. The constructive feedback provided during my studies improved my academic growth and prepared me well for my thesis on 'Space Governance and Geopolitics: Assessing Emerging Space States Perspectives On the Democratisation of Low Earth Orbit'.

How connected was your course with industry?

My course at Northumbria University had a strong industry connection. I engaged with industry through projects like my in-depth thesis research on space governance. Additionally, I benefited from interesting guest lectures and discussions from professionals in the field. These experiences helped me bridge theoretical knowledge with practical insights and real-world applications, preparing me for a career addressing space governance issues.

What was the best thing about your course?:

The best thing about my course at Northumbria University was the combination of specialised courses Space Law and Policy, Cyber and Telecommunications, which enhanced my research skills significantly. The opportunity to work closely with my supervisor, Prof. Chris Newman and Dr. Lauren Napier, as well as collaborate with peers enriched my learning experience, offering insightful guidance and diverse perspectives. Engaging with industry professionals through projects and guest lectures also made my learning practical and relevant to real-world challenges in space governance.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals / give your career an edge?

Studying at Northumbria University played a pivotal role in advancing my career goals. The specialised Master's program in Space Law, coupled with advanced courses like Advanced Legal Research in Space Law and Policy, greatly improved my research and analytical skills. Collaborating closely with my supervisor, Prof. Newman, and peers like Lauren, allowed me to gain diverse insights and expert guidance, giving my career a distinctive edge.Engaging with industry professionals through projects such as Open Lunar Foundation's Deliberation On Our Resources Rights (DOORR) initiative, equipped me with practical knowledge and a strong network in the field. These accomplishments were further bolstered by the recognition received through awards like the Association of Commercial Space Professionals and New Space Finance Scholarship, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics ASCENDS Diverse Dozen and the Ray Williamson Future Fund Award. Overall, my studies at Northumbria University significantly enhanced my expertise and positioned me as a well-prepared and accomplished professional in the space industry.  

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now/throughout your career?

The advanced legal research skills, specialized knowledge in space law, and effective communication techniques gained from my course at Northumbria University are foundational to my career. These skills enable me to tackle complex space governance challenges, collaborate effectively with industry experts, and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the space industry. 

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

The highlights of my time at Northumbria University were the specialised courses, collaborative learning atmosphere, engaging industry projects, and the valuable resources provided by the library 

What advice would you give somebody who is thinking of studying at Northumbria?

For those considering studying at Northumbria, I would advise embracing the specialised courses, collaborating with peers and mentors, and engaging in industry projects. Leverage the opportunities to gain practical skills, network with professionals, and tailor your studies to align with your career aspirations.
