This online event will update health and social care professionals on law and practice relating to the Mental Capacity Act 2005, its Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, and the forthcoming Liberty Protection Safeguards.

For those who practice as DoLS Best Interests Assessors, it will meet the statutory requirement for annual refresher training established by The Mental Capacity  (Deprivation of Liberty: Standard Authorisations, Assessments and Ordinary Residence) Regulations 2008.

Northumbria University has provided annual programmes of MCA refresher training since 2009, receiving consistently excellent feedback from local authority, NHS, and independent practitioners.

Our facilitators, Dr. Cat Meredith and Dr. Carole Southall, draw from extensive academic and practice experience in order to:

  • Guide professionals through the latest developments relating to legislation, policy, publications, research and practice guidance
  • Explore the legal, ethical and practice implications of recent case law
  • Provide a vital space to learn and reflect with peers
